Janet Mayell Waite passed from this earth and into the presence of her Lord and Savior on March 30, 2021 at the age of 96 years.

She was born on a dairy farm on the outskirts of Cohoes on November 22, 1924. She loved her country life.

Janet graduated from Cohoes High School and Mildred Elley Secretarial College.

After graduation she took a job with GE, where she worked until her marriage. She left her position to become a full time wife and mother. Once her five children were in school, Janet worked in the insurance business until retirement.

She enjoyed baking, sewing, knitting, arts and crafts, and preserving food. Her passion was gardening. She loved camping, swimming, canoeing ,biking, skiing, and hiking in the Adirondacks.

Janet was active in the BHBL Methodist church. She taught Sunday school for many years and participated in several organizations of the church.

She was a member of the Thymely Herb Club, BHBL Women's Club, and Book Club and enjoyed playing games with friends.

After retirement, she and her husband Donald started traveling. They took several trips across the continental US and visited Canada, Alaska, Australia, New Zealand, Holland and the Netherlands, the Panama Canal, UK (England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland), Scandinavia, and Hawaii.

Janet is predeceased by her parents Egbert and Grace (Van Vranken) Mayell, her beloved husband of 68 years, Donald Holbrook Waite (2016), her sisters Barbara Mayell and Marilyn (George) Blackett, and sisters in law Marion (Elmer) Curtis, Dorothy (Luther) Brown, Mabel (Emerson) Murtlow.

She is survived by her sister Anne and children Sandra Clements, Carol Waite, James (Jeanne) Waite, Joy (Mark Calhoun) Waite, and Richard (Georgia) Waite. Grandchildren Jennifer (Ethan) Seymour, Janna (Joshua) Barnes, Jaalah (Blair) Patterson, James Clements, Ayla (Austin) Corrigan, Sunnee (soon (Andrew) Balsz), Abigail and Christopher Waite. Great grandchildren Kara, Kaleb, and Kayleigh Seymour; Aireka, Susannah, and Aiden Patterson; and soon baby Corrigan, and many nieces and nephews.

Janet has always been an adventure seeker. Her sister, Anne, loves to tell the story that Janet would have all the fun ideas as they were growing up. When Anne would say "Mother said not to do that", Janet would reply "That was yesterday!". That spark and spunk has been lifelong.

The unfortunate part is that she had the vast majority of broken bones in the family, including her descent through the concrete cap of a well at the age of 82. Locals and family members across the U.S. are familiar with this story, not just from word of mouth, but from seeing the feature on the Evening News. The next day, from her hospital bed, her first comment was "I always wanted to ride in a helicopter, but I couldn't see anything!"

Janet flew alone for the first time for a trip to California to celebrate her 90th birthday. Sandy and Carol joined Joy and the Calhoun family to visit Lake Tahoe, Mono Lake, Yosemite (hiking out to Glacier Point), Carmel, and the San Francisco Bay area. We even slept one night on a sailboat in a marina in Oakland, CA.

Janet has always been one to look at the bright side. She has been an inspiration to many. She was born into a close knit and loving family and provided the same to her children. She has never let her physical limitations get in the way of her determination to live life to the fullest. Hers is a life well lived.
