Margaret Fraser was born in 1843 in Pictou, nova scotia, canada. At some point she meet a British soldier, private Benjamin Ockelton between 1866-1870. Benjamin is recorded on war office records as receiving a medal for service in Canada between 1866-1870. His service number was 93 and was a soldier in the 1st battalion rifle brigade. They married. Benjamin is recorded as serving in Dublin Ireland in 1862 in the 2nd battalion ,19th foot. He was a career soldier but stayed as a private. Margaret married Benjamin Ockelton before 1870 in Canada. A daughter was born fanny in 1870 but the family returned to Britain in 1870-71. Margaret lived at Historic Heights, Dover, England an army base when the second daughter, Ellen Isabella was baptised in 29th October 1871 in the Garrison church of saint marys. ( War office overseas records. ) The family then appear on the 1881 census in Kingston upon hull. Benjamin was born in sculcoates, Yorkshire in January 1842. In 1871 Benjamin is a Chelsea pensioner aged 40. Retired from the srmy. Margaret is 39, daughter fanny 11, Ellen 10, son William 8. In 1891 they are at sutton, Yorkshire and Benjamin is a customs officer, aged 49, Margaret is 49, fanny is 20, William is 17. In 1901 they are living in sculcoates, Yorkshire. Benjamin is 59, Margaret is 58, fanny is 30 and single, William is 27 and recorded as being born in Dover as his sister Ellen was. There is also a grandson aged 3 called George. Benjamin dies in December 1908 in sculcoates, Yorkshire aged 66. He had been born in sculcoates in January 1842.
In 1911 Margaret is in Falmouth with her daughter Fanny McCallum nee Ockelton, husband Alexander McKinnon McCallum and their two daughters. They are at 1 North Parade, falmouth, cornwall. Margaret is now aged 68 and a widow. She appears on the 1921 census as living in Saint clement, Truro, which is a village very close to truro. She died aged 96 in 1929 and is buried here. Her grave stone indicates her age at death as 96. She died in 14.2.1929. The census of 1881 and 1891 indicate a dob 1842 and census of 1901 and 1911 indicate dob as 1843. There is some ambiguity over her age at death.
