143810 Able Seaman R Belcher, Royal Navy. Served on HMS Philomel. Was deployed with the Naval Brigade with the Natal Task Force and the Naval guns that were sent to Ladysmith at the end of Oct 1899. He died of dysentery after the relief of Ladysmith at No 1 Stationary Hospital, Modder Spruit. He was buried at Modder Spruit. His remains were later reinterred at Elandslaagte.
