Thelma was the daughter of Willis "Buster" Hunter and Minnie Jewel Perry Hunter. She was educated in the Marion County School System and graduated as Valedictorian of Buena Vista High School in Buena Vista, Georgia. She attended Blaton Trade School in Atlanta, Georgia where she obtained her Certificate of Medical Secretarial Science. She was previously employed as a Medical Secretary and Bookkeeper. She joined Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Buena Vista, Georgia at an early age. She later attended New Corinth Baptist Church.

She was married to John Stewart Boone Sr on April 12, 1969. She was preceded in death by 1 son, John "Bam" Boone Jr, who preceded her in death on June 7, 1995, 2 sisters, Diane Hunter and Bernice Hunter Daniel and 3 brothers, Alfred "Bro" Hunter, Charlie Hunter and Leroy Hunter.

2 Daughters: Alesia Boone and Dr. Cathy Dothard(James).
4 Sons: Horace Givens Jr(Janice), Darryl Hunter Sr(Kellie), CW4 Gregory Hunter(Cherylanne) and Mark Boone.
3 Sisters: Mary Hunter Walker(Elder Alphonso Sr), Minnie Hunter Burrows(Joseph) Dr. Reather Hunter Waller(Minister Charles Sr).
2 Brothers: Willie Hunter(Fanny) and Minister John Thomas Jackson(Rosa).
2 Sisters-In-Law: Julia Smith and Ozelle Robak.
1 Brother-In-Law: Jesse Boone.
A Special Cousin: Mary "Sister" Hunter Clayton.
12 Grandchildren: Jasmine Givens, D'Angelo Givens, Robert Warren Hunter, Darryl Hunter Jr, Annastasia Green, Alexandria Green, Cameron Hunter, Keashona Ballard, Kevin Ballard, Ajani Rhodes, Marisol Dothard and Benjamin Dothard.

Services were held Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 11AM in the Sanctuary of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Buena Vista, Georgia.
