William immigrated to America from Ireland. He took the Oath of Citizenship in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in March, 1847. William and Jemima had eleven children. Five of their children died in infancy and are buried next to them.

Death of Wm. Orr – Wm. Orr a well known citizen of Jones county, died at the family residence in Scotch Grove township, Saturday evening, Jan. 21st. He was among the early settlers of the neighborhood. He was born near Ferranshane in the county Antrim, Ireland, in 1833. Emigrated to the United States in 1851, settling at Thompsonville, Connecticut. In 1855 he came to Iowa, settling in the vicinity of what became his future home in Scotch Grove township, where he resided to the time of his death. He was a grandson of the celebrated Irish patriot, Wm. Orr, who was hung for high treason because of his active efforts defending the persecuted Catholics in 1797. There survive him of his family his wife, son Joseph, daughters Jane, Mary, Nancy, Mina, and Edna. Also two brothers John Orr who lives in Scotch Grove, and Harberson Orr at Dallas, Texas. Mrs. Armstrong of Dubuque, and cousin James Orr of Cascade. The funeral occurred at Frozen Hill church Monday Inst, and was largely attended, the Rev. Cullen of Onslow, officiating.
