"HENRY CONARD DEAD
Aged Resident of Country South of Town Succumbs to Illness.
Stephen Henry Conard was born April 17, 1841, in Loudon(Loudoun)county, Virginia, and died Nov. 6, 1915, at his home near Columbus, Kansas. He was converted at the age of 18, at a Methodist meeting held in a little log school house near Lovettsville, Va. He lived a consecrated Christian life, and was so patient in all suffering. He was married to Victoria Beans in 1866. Four children were born to this union: G. H. Conard, Miami, Okla.; Cora L. Douglas, Coffeyville, Ks.; C.C. Conard, Coffeyville; Blanch Murphy, Ellicott, Colo. She died May 2, 1876. In 1877 he was married to Mary Virginia Nichols. She died in the year 1889, leaving one child, Maud Guild, Meeker, Okla. In 1891 he was married to Alice May Shumaker, Three children were born to this union: Edith Elliott, Boynton, Okla.; George and John Conard at home. This wife, eight children, twenty grandchildren and one great grandchild survive him.
He became a member of the Masonic lodge in 1860.
He sleeps, he sleeps, his work is done.
His toils are past, the victory's won, His sufferings are forever o'er, He dwells with Christ on Heaven's bright shore.
'Tis hard to say a last farewell To one whom we have loved so well, But God thought best to call him home And Angels whispered to "Come." He never more shall suffer pain, His death is an eternal gain; For they who die in Christ are blest And shall forever be at rest. He sleeps, he sleeps, he is not dead, But lives with Christ, his living head; His body rests beneath the sod, But his pure spirit rests with God."
