"Charles S. Havens belongs to that quiet, solid class of men whose influence and services, without noise or display, are always exerted at the right time and in the right place. Also - Center Moriches, L.I., April 23- Charles S. Havens, one of the best known men in Suffolk County, fell dead in his store this morning supposedly from heart disease. He had been in rather poor health for some years, but had attended to business regularly and was at his store as usual this morning. Those in the store saw him suddenly fall forward against a counter and expire without uttering a word.

Mr. Havens was a son of Colonel Havens, of Patchogue, where he was born seventy-one years ago. He was in business there with his brother, John S. Havens, for a few years, then started a general store here, which he had since conducted.

He had been prominent in all walks of life. In politics he was a Democrat, and had been an assemblyman and supervisor, and held other positions. He was a postmaster during the Cleveland administration. He had long been the ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church here. He was a well read and thoroughly educated man. He was a member of the South Side Lodge, F. & A.M., of Patchogue. His widow and three children survive him. They are former Senator John L. Havens and Miss Henrietta Havens of this place, and Mrs. Grover C. Adams, of Greenport.
