Richard (Dick) L. Aeschleman, 88, passed away at 8:40pm on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, in his home.

Richard was born on April 21, 1933, in Roanoke, IL to the late, Fred and Mary (Foerter) Aeschleman. Richard was also preceded in death by five brothers, Fred, Wesley, Harold, Edward, and Joe; and one sister, Fanny (Huschen) Aeschleman. On May 20, 1956, Richard married Rose Ann (Knobloch) in Princeville, IL and she passed away on January 20, 2021. Richard often said that Rose was the perfect wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Richard is survived by children, Timothy (Peggy) Aeschleman, Thomas (Patricia) Aeschleman, Becky (William) Ohland, and Ann (Kevin) Hunsberger; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Lou Martin.

Richard honorably served his country in the United States Air Force as a Cryptographer. He began his career with R.G. LeTourneau, Inc., in Peoria, IL, serving as an Administrative Engineer. He joined the Fuller Brush Company in 1958. In 1963, he was promoted to Fort Wayne Branch Manager, supervising Fuller Brush dealers in 50 counties in Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. Richard served on the Board of Directors for Bethel College in the early 1970s and later accepted a position as Assistant to the President in 1975. Richard developed the first effort in written proposals to foundations in Bethel's 47-year history. The effort was successful as Bethel realized two grants from foundations: one for upgrading the baseball field and seed money for Bethel's new Dining Commons. Richard retired from Northern Indiana Canteen in 1999 where he was the District Marketing Manager. He served on the original Life Treatment Centers board for 11 years. As President of Hope Rescue Mission Board, he supported the Rease building purchase, the present home of Hope Ministries. In the 1990s, working with Richard "Digger" Phelps, Aeschleman became the chair lead organizer of the Michiana Dream Team Mentoring program and served as its first Board Chairman. The program continues to this day. Richard was a member of the Camp Ray Bird Board of Directors and served two years pro bono as Development Director, and was instrumental in raising funds, thus preventing foreclosure on the Camp ray Bird property. He also served as treasurer for St. Joseph County Coalition against Drugs established by Father Malloy, an organization of concerned citizens, to fight the drug and alcohol abuse. For 22 years, Richard was a member of Real Services Community Block Grant Advisory Board. He was a 2018 Age of Excellence Honoree. In 2018, he was honored with the Governor's Golden Hoosier Award presented at the Indianapolis Statehouse by Lieutenant governor Suzanne Crouch for outstanding service to the South Bend Community.

A Private Graveside Service for children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be held in the future at Southlawn Cemetery. Palmer Funeral Home – Guising Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN 46614 is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Cornerstone Church and Hope Ministries of South Bend.
