Richard L. Levings, 78, of Marshalltown, Iowa, died on Monday, March 24, 2014, following a brief illness. Funeral services at Anderson Funeral Homes. Interment in the Iowa Veterans Home Cemetery in Marshalltown.

Richard was born on July 3, 1935, in Sabetha, Kansas, the son of Charles Henry Levings and Bernice Mabre Thompson. He joined the Army in 1957. Richard was a very special man to everyone he met, the local elementary children commonly referred to him as Grandpa Richard.

Richard will be missed by his brother, Bernard of Great Bend, Kansas; step-children, Don (Nikki) Grogan of Lexington, South Carolina, Jon Grogan of Farmington, Missouri, Fabian Grogan of Marshalltown, Rita Lunsford of Wichita, Kansas, Nita Dewey of Athens, Tennessee, and Patti Sevenson of LeGrand, Iowa; step-grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Cheryl Ann Levings; and longtime companion, Sarah Rose Shealy.
