Pvt., Co. D, 5th Regiment, Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery (204th Volunteers). Enlisted at Pittsburgh on 19 August 1864. Discharged as private, Co. D, 5th Reg. H. Art. at Pittsburgh, 30 June 1865 at close of war. Died of chronic gastritis at the Soldiers and Sailors Home in Erie where he had lived for three years.

Records of the Soldiers and Sailors Home indicate that Michael was to be buried there in Erie. However, the "Record of Burial of Veteran" states, "Known to be buried in this cemetery, but grave not located."

Michael was never buried in Erie, despite the Soldier's Home records. His death registration in the Soldier's Home book and his obituary both indicate he was to be buried in Pittsburgh. Cemetery records for St. Mary's state he was buried in the Keally family plot: Section D, Lot 109, Grave 6.

KEELEY—At Soldiers' Home, Erie, Pa., on Thursday, July 21, 1892, at 6:30 A.M., Michael Keeley, in his 58th year. Funeral from the residence or his son-in-law, George W. Smart, No. 12 Herbert alley, Glenwood, on Saturday, 23d inst, at 2 o'clock, p. m. Friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend.
