Florence Abbate, age 82, of Schererville, passed away Saturday, December 20, 2008. Florence was a member of St. Michael's Church in Schererville. She was preceded in death by her parents: Nick and Nadia Popoff; and brother-in-law John Abbate. Florence is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Sebastiano "Bill" Abbate; loving children: Paul (Carol) Abbate and Nadine (Andre) Pelagalli; cherished grandchildren: Matthew Abbate, Gina Pelagalli and John Abbate; brother, John Popov; sister-in-law, Phyllis Abbate. Florence was a loving aunt, cousin and friend to many. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2008, 10:30 a.m. at the Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN. Upon Florence's wishes, services will terminate at the funeral home with cremation to follow. Visitation will be Monday, December 22, 2008 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Burns Funeral Home, under Savich & Semplinski Directors. In honor of her wishes, donations in honor of her grandson, John Abbate, can be made to the American Brain Tumor Association, 2720 S. River Road, #146, Des Plaines, IL 60018.
