George Hendrick passed away peacefully at home on June 18, 2021. Born March 30, 1929 in Stephenville, Texas, George was the oldest son of Hoyt and Bessie Lea Sears Hendrick. George spent the majority of his long and distinguished career as a professor of English at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He was a prolific scholar of 19th and 20th century literature and history, publishing over 30 books and articles, and a respected colleague, teacher and mentor to his students. George was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife Willene Lowery Hendrick. He is survived by his daughter Sarah Jourdain and son-in-law Eric Jourdain, his two grandchildren Emilie Jourdain and Dennis Jourdain. He is also survived by his brother John Hendrick, nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and a host of friends and former students. At George's request, he will be cremated with no services.
