Suicide by hanging. Found in barn.

Orval Austin Had Suffered Sunstroke Two Days Previously

It is with great sorrow we report the death of Orval Austin, respected young York farmer, who took his life early Monday morning after having been despondent for about two weeks.

His body, suspended in the barn of his farm near Foreston, Iowa, was found about 9 a.m. that day by his hired mand, a few hours after death had occurred.

About two weeks ago the 28 year old youth had injured his back and had not felt well since then. Saturday he suffered a sunstroke which aggravated his condition and on Sunday it was plainly noticeable that he wasn't himself at all. It was while he was in this unnatural condition that he decided to end it all.

Obituary

Orval Burton Austin was born June 6, 1907, in York township on the Austin homestead. In his youth he was baptized and confirmed at the Saetersdal Lutheran church and later became a member of the choir and church quartette. He always was actively interested in the work of the church and at the time of his death was financial secretary of the congregation.

His early childhood days were spent on the homestead. For the last five years he and his brother Clarence had operated the Foreston Farm. Since the untimely passing of Clarence two years ago his brother Gilbert had been working with him.

He was conscientious and much concerned about his work, especially interested in horses. A quiet and likeable personality won him many friends.

He is survived by his father, Ole Austin of York, five sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Inglebret of Preston, Mrs. Erma Ihns and Mrs. Sadie Williams of Lime Springs, Ia., Mrs. Goldie Hoopman, Cherry Grove, and Mrs. Georgie Morem, Preston; and Burton of York, to whom we extend our most sincere sympathy.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Lime Springs funeral parlors and at 2:00 p.m. from Saetersdal church, Rev. Frithjof Eide officiating. Interment in Saetersdal cemetery.
