Mr. Charles Horton Absher, Jr., age 76, of Wilkesboro died Monday, May 7, 2007 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center.

Burial will be in Moravian Falls Cemetery.

Mr. Absher was born in Wilkes County, March 8, 1931, to Charles Horton Absher, Sr. and Maude Lankford Absher. He was a member of Wilkesboro United Methodist Church. Mr. Absher was retired from the NC Department of Transportation with 32 years of service. He oversaw the building of bridges and concrete paving in northwest North Carolina. He was active in the democrat party for many years and served in many different functions in the party. Mr. Absher also served several years in the NC National Guard.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Absher was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara A. Eldridge and a brother, Travis Absher.

Mr. Absher is survived by his wife of 52 years, Audrey Pennell Absher of the home; one son, Charles Alan Absher and wife, Diane of Wilkesboro; one sister, Savannah Lovette and husband, Jim of McGrady; three brothers, Ralph Absher and wife, Peggy of Wilkesboro, Edward Absher and wife, Marcella of Marshall, TX, and David Absher and wife, Peggy of Las Vegas, NV; three grandsons, Jared, Ethan, and Seth Absher; one granddaughter, Emily Eldridge; three great grandchildren, Zachery Absher, Benjamin Absher, and Matias Simpson.
