velyn Brown, A native of Mount Vernon, AL departed this life to be with her heavenly father on Thursday, July 1, 2021. She Was born on August 12, 1939 to the union of the late George and Anniece Greene. She Confessed Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of the Williams Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully as a senior usher, a missionary, and a dedicated choir member. Evelyn worked for 27 years at Belsaw-Mt. Vernon School where she was a second mother to all of her students, where she retired from in 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Anniece Greene; a sister, Bonita Greene; a brother, Charles Greene; and a son, Avery Greene. She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted son, James (Sheila) Greene; a daughter, Etinya Brown Holefield; two step-daughters, Shelia (Joe) Somerville and Sandra Summage. Four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; a devoted God-daughter, Ayana Irby; a devoted God-son, Maurice Henderson; three sisters, Rosetta Huff, Ollivette Brown, and Palricia (Winston) Roache; two brothers, George Greene III, and Travis (Lorraine) Greene; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and close friends. Visitation will be held at Williams Chapel Baptist Church on Saturday, July 10, 2021 from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral hour. Rev. Kelvin Maye Pastor and Officiating Minister. Interment will follow in the Roper Cemetery, Mt. Vernon, AL.
