Walter had a PhD in physics, and was
the head of the physics department
at Georgia Tech for many years.
He received his master's degree in
physics from the University of Michigan.
He worked at Georgia Tech from
1931-1971.
He was appointed Professor of
Physics-Emeritus on July 1, 1971.
His hobby was his beautiful rose
garden in his backyard.
d. Dec. 28, 1987, in Alanta,
Fulton County Georgia, age 81.

He received his A. B. degree, from
Western State Teacher's College.

her sister Minnie, and brother-in-law
Ralph L. Marvin, in South Bend, Portage
township, St. Joseph County Indiana,
and listed as "single".
m. Mr. (William Randolph?) Nitz,
about Feb. 13, 1964 in San Francisco.
He is buried in the Cypress Lawn Memorial
Park, in Colma, San Mateo Co. California.
Virginia lived many years in California,
where she had a daughter.

FUNERAL SERVICE SUNDAY
FOR PETER EWALT, ORONOKO
Lifelong Resident of Vincinity
Passes Away at His Home Friday
After Extented Illness.

Peter Ewalt 67, lifelong resident of
Oronoko township and prominently known
farmer, died at his home on the Baroda
road Friday morning. He had been in
failing health for three years and for
the past year had been in critical
condition.
Mr. Ewalt had a host of friends in the
community who unite with the large
family in mourning his death.
Peter Ewalt was the son of George and
Mary Ewalt and was born in Oronoko
township January 24, 1864, being 67
years, 7 months and 18 days of age at
the time of his death. On January 1,
1890 he was united in marriage with
Mary C. Steeb who with the following
nine children survive: Mrs. Minnie
Marvin and Virginia Ewalt at home:
Harry, Joseph and Mrs. Agnes Wetzel
of Berrien Springs: Mrs. Bessie Kreps
of South Bend; Mrs. Mary Johns of
Baroda; Lamont of Green Bay, Wis. and
Walter of Alanta, Georgia. There are
also 17 grandchildren and the following
brothers and sisters: Charles, Mrs.
Florence Smith, Mrs. Mollie Priddy and
Miss Carrie Ewalt of Berrien Springs,
and Mrs. Anna Bird of Buchanan.
Mr. Ewalt was preceded in death by
four children. Ethel by a former
marriage, and Frank, Cora and George
of the second union.
Funeral service was conducted at the
late home on Sunday afternoon, Rev.
Richard D. Wearne of the Berrien
Springs and Hinchman Methodist churches,
officiating. A quartet composed of
Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Valentine and Mr.
and Mrs. Myron Sattler furnished music.
Burial was at Rose Hill cemetery, the
following being the pallbearers:
Harold Myers, Tracy Harper, John Fleisher,
E. A. Boal, Howard Boal, Paul Tudor.

(Virginia Ewalt, age 19, was living
at home with her parents at the time
of her father's death in 1931).
In the 1940 census, she is living with
her sister Minnie, and brother-in-law
Ralph L. Marvin, in South Bend, Portage
township, St. Joseph County Indiana,
and listed as "single".
m. Mr. (William Randolph?) Nitz,
about Feb. 13, 1964 in San Francisco.
He is buried in the Cypress Lawn Memorial
Park, in Colma, San Mateo Co. California.
Virginia lived many years in California,
where she had a daughter.
d. Dec. 6, 1995, in Berrien Co. Michigan.

Peter's obituary was published in the
"Berrien Springs Era" newspaper, in
Berrien Springs, Michigan, on
Sept. 17, 1931, page 1 (front page).
It reads:

FUNERAL SERVICE SUNDAY
FOR PETER EWALT, ORONOKO
Lifelong Resident of Vincinity
Passes Away at His Home Friday
After Extented Illness.

Peter Ewalt 67, lifelong resident of
Oronoko township and prominently known
farmer, died at his home on the Baroda
road Friday morning. He had been in
failing health for three years and for
the past year had been in critical
condition.
Mr. Ewalt had a host of friends in the
community who unite with the large
family in mourning his death.
Peter Ewalt was the son of George and
Mary Ewalt and was born in Oronoko
township January 24, 1864, being 67
years, 7 months and 18 days of age at
the time of his death. On January 1,
1890 he was united in marriage with
Mary C. Steeb who with the following
nine children survive: Mrs. Minnie
Marvin and Virginia Ewalt at home:
Harry, Joseph and Mrs. Agnes Wetzel
of Berrien Springs: Mrs. Bessie Kreps
of South Bend; Mrs. Mary Johns of
Baroda; Lamont of Green Bay, Wis. and
Walter of Alanta, Georgia. There are
also 17 grandchildren and the following
brothers and sisters: Charles, Mrs.
Florence Smith, Mrs. Mollie Priddy and
Miss Carrie Ewalt of Berrien Springs,
and Mrs. Anna Bird of Buchanan.
Mr. Ewalt was preceded in death by
four children. Ethel by a former
marriage, and Frank, Cora and George
of the second union.
Funeral service was conducted at the
late home on Sunday afternoon, Rev.
Richard D. Wearne of the Berrien
Springs and Hinchman Methodist churches,
officiating. A quartet composed of
Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Valentine and Mr.
and Mrs. Myron Sattler furnished music.
Burial was at Rose Hill cemetery, the
following being the pallbearers:
Harold Myers, Tracy Harper, John Fleisher,
E. A. Boal, Howard Boal, Paul Tudor.
