Benjamin Sackett was born in St Lawrence, Thanet on 4 July 1811, the son of Benjamin Sackett and Ann nee Cox. His mother died at his birth, and he was brought up by his grandparents. He was apprenticed to a miller. Soon after his first marriage he moved to Hythe, where he became a miller, working for the Horton family. While an apprentice, he had started preaching, and in 1836, he was admitted to the Dover Wesleyan Circuit. He was a tireless preacher, often walking twenty miles to keep an appointment. He lived in Stade Street, but had left home to keep and appointment when, after walking five miles, ghe was taken ill. He was brought home and died there peacefully some days later.
