Lowville Journal and Republican Oct 1912
On Thursday last, at his home in Talcottville occured the death of David Brainard Spencer, aged 79 years. He had been ill for several months with heart trouble and had been steadily losing strength for the past few weeks, so his death was not unlooked for. He was tenderly cared for by his daughter, Mrs John Trenham. David Brainard Spencer was the son of Eleazer and Sina Coe Spencer and was born in Leyden July 25, 1833. He was married to Esther Ann Arthur January 2, 1854 and had since resided in the old homestead in Talcottville. On March 1, 1890 he was left a widower. Later he married Miss Catherine Clark and after a few years he was again left a widower and has since made his home with his daughter. Deceased was a kind friend and neighbor, always ready and willing to lend a helping hand in case of sickness or trouble. He had been for many years a member of the Masonic Fraternity and was very much respected and esteemed by all who knew him. The funeral services were held in the Methodist Church Sunday afternoon, Rev H E Eades officiating. Members of the Masonic order were present in a body and paid their last tribute to the departed brother at the grave. Interment was in Talcottville Cemetery. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs John Trenham of Talcottville, eight grandchildren, Mrs Clinton Seymour of Lowville, Frank Trenham of Black River, Miss Grace Trenham of Lowville, Miss Caroline Trenham of Rome, Miss Bonnie Bell Trenham of Rochester, and Arch Trenham and Dewey Trenham of Talcottville, and two great grandchildren, Dorothy Elizabeth and Grace Helen Seymour of Lowville.
