Maletic, Thomas 8/25/1944 - 3/10/2021 Covington, Georgia Thomas Maletic, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on March 10, 2021, after a two-month battle with COVID-19. Born in 1944 in Flint, Michigan, Tom was the ninth of ten children born to John and Mary Maletic, Croatian immigrants who had moved to Flint from Pittsburgh. Tom had a wonderful childhood, growing up in a small but happy home across the street from Flint's Bishop Airport. There he developed a fascination with planes and machinery, leading to a job at the airport's flight school, and ultimately earning a pilot's license at the age of 16. Shortly after marrying Jeanne Williams of Flint in 1966, Tom was drafted and served in the U.S. Army for two years, with one year spent as a military police officer in Vietnam, oftentimes facing enemy gunfire. Upon his return Tom joined Genova Products of Davison, Michigan, a leading producer of PVC plumbing, where he was the company's Executive Vice President beginning in 1973. In 1976, Tom's interest in politics led to him serving as a Republican delegate at the GOP Convention in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1981, Tom moved his family to Charlotte, North Carolina, again working in the plastics industry, but eventually transitioning to a career as a manufacturing and management consultant, a role he would continue in for the rest of his life. In 1984, Tom received his BA in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. After divorcing in 1993, Tom moved to Atlanta and began work for KPMG as a management consultant. In Atlanta, Tom began a life together soon after with Janet Clarke. Tom and Janet spent as much time as they could traveling, playing golf, building gardens, and spending time with friends and family at their home in Covington, Georgia, marrying in 2019. Throughout his life, Tom possessed a fundamentally sunny disposition, and a desire to help in any way he could. In the community of Clark's Grove where he and Janet lived, Tom was an active community member, meeting with landscapers and contractors on projects to enhance the neighborhood. He'll be remembered by residents by his daily walks with his dogs, his entertaining stories, and his warm smile. Tom's hobbies included golf and gardening, and he was an outstanding painter of American landscapes. He had a skill and passion for entertaining, throwing parties for friends, and a fondness for making cocktails. Interests included music - he had an encyclopedic knowledge of music of the 50s and 60s - and American history, especially the Civil War. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Gracan Maletic, his brother Walter Maletic, brother James Maletic, and sister Helen Maletic Grzeck. Tom is survived by his wife, Janet; his son, Gregory Maletic (Melinda) and grandchildren Jane and William, of Portland, Oregon; his son, Michael Maletic (Adrianne) and grandchildren Benjamin, Miles, and Mila, of Los Gatos, California; stepdaughter Christie Chalberg (Toby) and step-grandchildren Elias, Owen, and Noah of Atlanta, Georgia; and stepdaughter Amy Rawlings (Brett) and step-grandchildren Aiden and Summer of Belton, South Carolina. He is also survived by his sister, Mildred Maletic Hampson of Petoskey, Michigan; sister Dorothy Maletic Morrish of Clio, Michigan; sister Elizabeth Maletic Roberts of Swartz Creek, Michigan; brother John Maletic of Fenton, Michigan; brother Robert Maletic of Irving, Texas; and brother Carl Maletic of Sacramento, California. He is also survived by his former wife and mother of his children, Jeanne Williams of Estero, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom's name to the Children's Heart Foundation in honor of his step-granddaughter Summer at https://www.childrensheartfoundation.org. For someone who lost his own father at the young age of four, Tom was a remarkable father and grandfather not only to his two boys and their children, but also a loving stepfather and step-grandfather to Janet's two daughters and their children. Tom was always there for school and sporting events, birthdays and graduations, and had a knack for making holidays special. He truly had the biggest heart for his family, and he will be deeply missed. Caldwell & Cowan of Covington, Georgia.
