Jimmy Sides, 91, of Waco, died on Wednesday morning, July 14, 2021, at Providence Village in Waco.

A funeral will be held at the graveside, Friday, July 16 at Oakwood Cemetery, at 10 am, with Bro. Greg Brumit officiating.

Jimmy was born March 28, 1930, to Tom and Lucy Gray Sides near the Vaughan community southwest of Hillsboro. He was the youngest of five boys and two girls. He attended school at the one-room Vaughan school and church in Aquilla. The family later moved to Union Bluff, where he finished junior school; he graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1947.

He attended Hillsboro College, where he met Helen Corridon. After two years of service in the US Army 45th Infantry Division in Korea, they married in 1952 and celebrated 68 years of marriage last December. He graduated from East Texas State Teachers College with bachelor's and master's degrees in agriculture and education. He had planned a teaching and school administration career but instead started work for the seven-year-old Texas Farm Bureau and its insurance programs.

After over 37 years in claims, claims management, and sales management, he retired in 1992 as Associated Director of Sales for Texas and Southern Farm Bureau Insurance Companies. He and Helen retired to their farm in the Ocee/Crawford area.

Family members preceding him in death include his parents; siblings Frances, Henry Jr, Ossie Mae, Marion, Herman, and Billy; and his son-in-law Ross Rogers.

He is survived by his wife Helen, daughters Judy Rogers of Waco and Janet and Mike Cooper of Crawford, and grandsons Travis Rogers and Clayton Rogers of Waco.
