CAPT Thomas Wheeler, Co. A 75th Ohio Vol. Inf., died of wounds inflicted on the first day of the Battle at Gettysburg! First shot thru the wrist and refused to leave the field, then in the groin, and again in the spine....dying some 20+ days later in G'burg, his body was shipped back by train for burial at Home! He was posthumously promoted to Captain.

Gettysburg Monument marking the right flank of the 75th Ohio on July 1, 1863, where Lt. Wheeler was mortally wounded...he died 27 days later at 11th Corps Hospital....body shipped home by train.
