Galveston, Ind., Jan 28-Mrs. Joannah (Plank) Hess, 79, formerly of Young America, died about 6:30 o'clock Sunday morning at New Castle, where she had lived for several years.
She was born March 11, 1866, in Galveston, later moving to Young America, where she grew to womanhood. She was married in Young America January 15, 1883, to Samuel C. Hess and will be remembered by many of her friends as Josie Hess.
She was the mother of two sons, Elmer Carl and Otto Grover, both of whom, with the husband, preceded her in death.
Surviving relatives are the granddaughter, Karlene Louise Hess, and daughter-in-law, Gertrude Hess, daughter and wife of Elmer C. Hess, deceased; also two sisters, Mrs. Jeanette Gardner of Kokomo and Mrs. Laura DeHaven of Logansport, and one brother, E. O. Plank of Flora.
Mrs. Hess accepted the Christian faith when a young girl and affliated with the Baptist church.
The body was removed to the Thomas funeral home in Galveston, where friends may call after 2 p.m. Monday. Short services will be held at the funeral home at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning, with the Rev. Harry Rea of Young America in charge. Burial will follow in Center cemetery north of Young America.
