Politician. Manuel Fernández Leal Cajigas was a Mexican engineer and politician, who was a member of the United States-Mexico Limits Commission, Senior Officer and Secretary of Public Works from 1891 to 1900. He joined the expedition led by Francisco Díaz Covarrubias as a surveyor and calculator engineer , with whom he traveled to Japan in 1874 to study the planet Venus. After his resignation for health reasons, he became director of the Casa de la Moneda, where he lived and died.
