James "Jim" Lee Barnhart, 90, of Greenfield passed away on Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Hancock Regional Health. He was born on July 31, 1931 in Hancock County a son of the late Cleatus Newton and Thelma Fanney (Tinney) Barnhart.
Jim attended Maxwell High School and graduated in 1949. He married the love of his life, Mary Ruth Holliday, on September 3, 1949 and together they enjoyed nearly 72 years of marriage. Jim worked as a carpenter and in the lumber business for many years before his retirement. He served as a past President for the 4-H of Hancock County and was very involved in his community helping others. Jim enjoyed wood working, cars, watching IU Basketball and the Cincinnati Reds and spending time with his family.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Mary Ruth Barnhart; five children, Connie (David) McCord, Gary (Kathy) Barnhart, Debbie (Mark) Hudson, Jeff (Cathy) Barnhart and Rob (Linda) Barnhart; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Richard Barnhart and Donald (Carolyn) Barnhart; sister-in-law, Jean Barnhart and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica Nicole Barnhart; two brothers, Robert Barnhart and Billy Barnhart and sisters-in-law, Juanita Barnhart and Elizabeth Barnhart.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends 4 Jessica Memorial Fund in the care of Rob and Linda Barnhart 5901 E. 300 S., Greenfield, IN 46140 with envelopes available at the service.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at Park Chapel Christian Church Sanctuary 1176 E. McKenzie Road, Greenfield, IN 46140 with David Wood officiating.
Friends may visit from 4 – 6 pm prior to the service at the church.
