MURPHY, Francis Edward "Bill" - 85, Halifax, passed away quietly in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Francis Edward Sr. and Bridget Anne (Von Syberg) Murphy. A veteran of the Second World War, Bill was a retired checker with the National Harbours Board, after 35 years of service. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, gardener, and coin collector. Bill was a past member of the Knights of Columbus, and a lifetime member of the Resolute Club. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Frances Gwendolyn (Graham) Murphy, Halifax; sons, Stephen (Nancy), Michael (Lona), William, James, Richard (Laura), Robert, Paul (Sherry), all of Halifax; daughters, Patricia (Gary) Boudreau, Halifax; Christine (William) Stone, St. Peters, Cape Breton; Pauline Martin, Ontario; Kathleen (Derrick) Roberts, Halifax; 23 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Joseph Murphy. Bill was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by all. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Basilica, 1508 Barrington St. Interment in Oakridge Memory Gardens.
