ALBERTA K. LUNDGREN SCHERERVILLE, IN - Alberta K. Lundgren, age 81, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2014, nine days after her birthday. The daughter of Joseph and Anna Mae (Reishman) Kluesner, she married Lawrence Alan Lundgren on June 13, 1971.
Alberta received her B.S. degree from St. Louis U., and her M.A. degree from the U. of Illinois. She did post-graduate work at Southern Illinois U., Purdue U., and Indiana U. She also studied English and drama at the London Literary Institute in London, England.
She was a teacher who spent much of her career teaching English at Morton Senior High School in Hammond, in the Adult Education program and in the G.E.D. program there. She also taught Interpersonal Communications at Purdue U. Calumet Campus. She sponsored the National Honor Society for many years and served as Building Representative of the Hammond Teachers' Federation for 10 years. Alberta also served as Democratic Precinct Committee woman and was elected delegate to several Democratic State Conventions. Her many hobbies and interests included training and showing dogs in obedience and traveling with her husband around the world, making many lasting friendships along the way. She was an inveterate letter writer, ballroom dancer, speed reader, bridge player, organic gardener, and designer of houses.
Her wonderful wit and kindness are greatly missed by countless students, colleagues, neighbors, family, and friends.
