Samuel Johnson, the second of four children of the late Alfred G. and Mary Johnson was born on December 16, 1906 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Sam, as he was called by his family and friends, departed this life on Saturday, January 16, 1999 at the Ridgecrest Nursing Home in Feasterville, Pennsylvania where he was a resident since January 1995.
He received his education in the public schools of Philadelphia.
After his marriage to Charlotte Alston on May 29, 1929 they moved to Brooklyn, New York and enjoyed 53 years together. Sam was a active member of the New Lots Community Church in Brooklyn, New York. He also had membership and various leadership positions in the Mt. Pisgah Masonic Lodge #83 culminating him being a Past Master.
Sam was employed as a master machinist at the Linotype-Hell Company in New York. He retired in 1974 and continued to be self-employed in various duties.
After losing his wife in 1981, Sam returned to Pennsylvania to be close to his family. Sam is survived by his sister, Julia A. Barrett; niece Irene Dorsey and her husband John; grandniece, Heather Dorsey; as well as cousins Bertha Johnson and Doris Odom, nephew Irving Turner and many friends.
