Bart Peterson Dead
One of Minonk's Most Highly Respected
Residents Gone
Barthol Peterson was born in Denmark, June 25, 1838, and departed this life in Minonk, Illinois, April 23, 1910, in his 72nd year. In 1858 he came to America, in his 30th year, and located in New York City, where he lived until the beginning of the Civil War. At the call of his adopted country, he enlisted in company E. 29th New York Volunteers, in which he served two years and then re-enlisted in Hancock's Veteran corps, company E. 9th regiment, in which he served until honorably discharged at the close of the war.
On January 29, 1865 he was married to Christina Yost, who survives him, and in the spring of 1866 they moved to Illinois, settling in Nebraska township and his home since then has been in and about Minonk. He united with the Methodist Episcopal church of Minonk, February 2, 1896 and was received into full relation August 16th of the same year.
Mr. Peterson was a good citizen and a fine neighbor and was held in high esteem by everyone who knew him and in his death our city loses one of its very best citizens, and the bereaved wife has the sympathy of entire community.
Funeral services were conducted at the late residence at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon by Rev. C. Wesley Ayling and burial was made in the Minonk cemetery. The pall bearers were W. O. Pope, Chas. Pickard, C. E. Ridge, Philip Bohlander, James Andrews and R. G. Clegg.
