She attended Hopeful School in Hopeful, GA, elementary through high school. She moved to Macon, GA where she attended business college. After moving to Macon, she met and married William M "Billy" Reed. She was a member of Mabel White Baptist Church, Faith Bible Class, and Beta Sigma Sorority. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ewell Frank Powe and Mary Cecil Burgess Powe; husband of 41 years, William M "Billy" Reed; siblings James Dewitt Powe, Ewell Floyd Powe, Cecil Oswell Powe and Mary Powe Wilson. Surviving are her daughter, Rhonda Reed Gilpin and son-in-law, Mark V Gilpin; and sister, Rachel Powe Rowan.
