Lamoine Mush Clouser, Greentown, passed away at the age of 87 at the IU Health Methodist Hospital. He was born April 22, 1931, in Randolph County, Indiana, to Leo and Lema (Summers) Clouser.
Lamoine graduated from Windfall High School in 1949. Lamoine was more commonly known as Mush. He was given the nickname by a grandmother after the comic strip character Mush Stebbins in the Just For Kids strip popular in the 1930s.
He grew up on a farm in Tipton County. He worked many jobs as a young man including farmhand on farms in the neighboring community, carpenter, sub mail route carrier, and milk route hauler.
Upon discharge from the Marine Corps he returned home and rented a farm in Union Township, Howard County while holding a full time job at the Continental Can in Elwood from which he retired after 30 years of service. He gave up farming in 2011 at age 80.
Mush loved his immediate and extended family which included many nieces and nephews. At a recent family reunion 5 generations of Clousers were photographed together, he holding a great-great-great grandniece. He loved to travel with his wife throughout the U.S. and the world visiting farming, cultural, and historical sites. He was fascinated by the resourcefulness of farmers in other parts of the world in adapting their practices to fit the local environmental, cultural, and market requirements.
He was a member of the Jerome Christian Church and attended the United Methodist Church in Windfall. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carolyn Sue (Conway) Clouser; sons, Dr. Sidney (Dr. Anne) Clouser, Chardon, OH, and Matthew (Kimberly) Clouser, Burleson, TX; grandsons, Dr. Benjamin (Fatima) Clouser, Chicago, IL, and Travis and Clayton Clouser, Burleson; and sisters, Betty Johner, Jane Watson, Marlene Shadday and Ellen Wylie.
He was preceded in death by son, Rodney; parents; brothers, Fred, Arthur, Ray, Gene, John, Bill and Charlie; and sister, Virginia.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Hasler-Stout Funeral Home, 112 E. Main St., Greentown, with Pastors James Sharber and Dennis Lafferty officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the scholarship fund of the Greentown Masonic Lodge and/or Kelly Fennel School Supply Fund of the Windfall Methodist Church.
