Lineida Olivera moved to the United States from Puerto Rico after giving birth to her first child at sixteen. She was the oldest of four children and was very close to her family. Lineida was known to friends and family as a generous and friendly person, with a positive outlook about the future. She had an unfaltering optimism that she would overcome her addiction and be able to care for her children. Lineida was last seen in January of 2007, but was not reported missing until May. Her family believed her to be in a detox center that she had intended to check herself into. The center's regulations prohibited outside contact in the initial stages of rehabilitation. Lineida's family wasn't aware of her absence until months after they had last seen her.

On September 3, 2007, a hunter in Rutland, MA was inspecting his tree blind in the woods, in preparation for the upcoming hunting season. He stumbled upon a set of skeletal remains roughly 200 yards from Route 122 near Rutland State Park. The hunter contacted authorities, and it wasn't long before State Police and the Medical Examiner's office appeared at the densely wooded conservation area. Days later, after the remains had been recovered with the help of police dogs, they were identified through dental records to be Lineida Olivera. A cause of death has not been released, but Lineida's manner of death was ruled a homicide. A family member of Lineida believes she had been killed by somebody that she knew. It was common practice that she would call this relative with the license plate number of the car she was going to get into if she felt at all uneasy. No such call ever came.
