William was the first Postmaster of the town of Cameron Springs, which was named after him. He established the first post office there in November 5, 1885. The name of this town was later changed to Kramer. It was located on Moores Hill Road in Warren County, Indiana.

William purchased property with a natural spring that Samuel Story discovered in 1884 had healing affects on his rheumatism. They first started to develop and market the therapeutic water in 1885.

William leased his property near Kramer to Harry L Kramer. On December 25, 1890, he opened the Hotel Mudlavia that had a spa built at the site of this natural spring. This hotel was not prospering. In January 1889, The Humane Remedy Company of Lafayette purchased Cameron Springs from William Cameron. The name was changed to Indiana Mineral Springs.
