James Andrew McClure, son of Andrew McClure and Elizabeth Bryson, was always known as Andrew, possibly because his younger brother was given the name James Bryson McClure. Andrew was born in King Township, York County and lived there for all of his life.

He married Mary Butler Wells on 19 January 1898 in King Township. Andrew was a farmer until he retired in 1936. He was also an original shareholder of the King Telephone Company, which was founded in 1909. When dial telephones were brought to King in 1959, Andrew was chosen by Bell Telephone to make the first call. He was director of the King City Cemetery Board, the first secretary of King City Trustees and was actively involved with establishment of the waterworks in 1947.

Andrew died on 15 April 1969 in King City. He apparently kept a daily diary of events in King Township from 1898 until 1957 and also maintained a collection of antique utensils, furniture and clothing. His obituary, published in The Liberal (Richmond Hill, Ontario) on 24 April 1969, p. 4, referred to him as the unofficial historian of King Township.
