Sudden Death Of An Old Identity

The death took place somewhat suddenly at 4.30 o'clock yesterday afternoon at Mr Oakfield's farm, Opaki, of Mr John Mutrie, an old identity of the Masterton district.

* An elderly man named John Mutrie, who has been living a retired life for the last few years. went out to work in the harvest field this afternoon. After working for a few hours he collapsed and died. Deceased was a single man and belonged to one of the oldest families in the district.

* At the inquest concerning the death of Mr Henry Mutrie of Masterton, who died suddenly, a verdict of death from heart failure was returned.
The deceased, who was about 67 years of age and single, sustained a broken leg some five years ago, since which time he had done no manual labour. He, however, commenced work on McLauchlan's threshing mill at noon yesterday and at the time stated above, one of his fellow employees noticed him fall and going to his assistance found that life was extinct. The deceased was of a quiet, unassuming disposition and a favourite amongst those with whom he associated. On Saturday last he played with the Park Bowling Club in a match against Carterton. He leaves a brother, Mr Alex Mutrie of Hessey street.
