Elva was born in Kansas in 1912 to Nellie and Alfred Burgat. She had one brother and two sisters. She taught school for several years and then married Earl Mellott. They had three children, Robert, Marilyn and Carol. She was a homemaker most of her life but also worked later on. She was an excellent cook and seamstress and mother and wife. She and Earl retired together in Wichita and enjoyed some traveling. She had a stroke in 1984 which limited her some but was always very pleasant to be around. She was a loving person always willing to help anyone who needed it. She passed away in November 1987 after a second stroke. She is greatly missed by all who loved her.
