Virgil Alfred BUrgat
Virgil Alfred Burgat, 80, Topeka, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 1994, at a Topeka hospital.
Mr. Burgat worked in the Kansas Department of Transportation from 1940 until he retired in 1979.
He was born May 18, 1914, on a farm in the Peabody community, the son of Alfred and Nellie Erion Burgat. He attended Peabody High School and Kansas State University where he majored in geology.
Mr. Burgat was a member of Grace United methodist Church and the Homebuilders Sunday school class. He also was a member of the Topeka Optimist Club and the Topeka Engineers Club.
Mr. Burgat was married to Viola Mae Zuhars. She survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Betty Burgat Mottin, Ontario, Canada, Janet Burgat, Roeland Park, and Ruth Burgat, Topeka; two sisters, Eloise Patry, Marion, and Dorothy Hanneman, Peabody; and two granddaughters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. Burgat will lie in state after 10 a.m. Monday at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace United methodist Church, 2627 S.W. Western Ave., Topeka,66611, or to the Downtown Optimist Club and sent in care of Don Lee, treasurer, 2888 S.W. College Court, Topeka, 66611-1659.
