Alexander Crews was the forefather of most of the large CREWS family of the Wiregrass Georgia and Northern Florida.
He was a native of Charleston District, SC in the portion of Colleton County and a son of John Crews.

Alexander Crews moved to Camden County in 1819 from South Carolina.
He served in CAPT. Daniel N. Cone's Company of Camden County Militia in the Indian War, in 1838.
The Crews homestead was originally in Camden County near Winokur but was placed in Charlton County in 1854 when it was created out of Camden. Since 1923 it has been in Brantley County.
Alex and Lucy were buried on a " buffalo " west of where Winokur now is : back of the Jim Hickox place , according to a grandson; the late Bryant Crews of Ware County, Ga.

They came to Georgia around 1819 and settled in the Camden County, GA area. It later became Wayne County, GA ., then Charlton County, GA. Alexander Crews is said to have died March 1850 according to the 1850 Wayne County, GA Mortality Schedule. The homestead that Alexander and Lucy lived on change from Camden County to Wayne County then to Charlton County. Both are said to be buried in a family plot on the old "Crews homestead" place near Winokur, Charlton County, GA.Alexander Crews was born in Charleston Dist in 1770 to John Crews and Nancy Collins. Alexander married Lucy Dubois (1785-1848) and had 13 children. He passed away on Mar 1845 in Winokur, Georgia, USA.
