Danish Prince from the House of Oldenburg, son of Hereditary Prince Fredrik of Denmark (1753–1805) and Sophie Friederike of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (1758-1796). Brother of King Christian VIII of Denmark (1786-1848). In 1829 he married his father's first cousin Caroline of Denmark (1793-1881), daughter of King Frederik VI of Denmark (1768-1839). Ferdinand died childless, which was one of the reasons why the main branch of the Danish Royal House soon went extinct, triggering the second war of Schleswig.
