I have removed the LITTLEBURY connection from Paul's wife.

It is beginning to look like there was NO LITTLEBURY family in the Virginia Colony. There is no proof that Paul's wife's surname was LITTLEBURY. Upon finding (in the LDS database) one Joseph LITTLEBURY who allegedly had a daughter Margaret who married an ABNEY ally, John HURT, I was encouraged that this same Joseph LITTLEBURY (who allegedly d.1745 Albemarle Co., VA) was father-in-law of Paul ABNEY (bapt.1699, liv.1744 Albemarle Co., VA when it was created out of Goochland County). However, our group of genealogists (Robert H. Abney, John M. Abney, Grace Crouch Prater, Holly Witt, and myself) have poured over this alleged LITTLEBURY family mystery for several months, and each of us has come up empty. We are unable to find even one primary record of any LITTLEBURY in Albemarle County, VA; or the whole of Virginia for that matter. The ONLY lead was found by Holly Witt…and the "LITTLEBURY" in the index turned out to be "LITTLEBOY" in the document. As others have in the past, we have failed to find someone of the LITTLEBURY surname, save in an unsourced LDS file (which [like the Lt. Paul ABNEY myth] seems to have been fabricated in its entirety). Therefore, it is prudent that I remove all "LITTLEBURY" references from Paul's wife.

Still, I believe there is a common "Littleberry" namesake for both Lucy Abney Witt's family and John Abney's family. But I no longer believe it was a surname.

Holly Witt suggests we look to the family of Littleberry EPPES for our namesake. And so, another whole family to research. Alas! Does anyone know the family of Littleberry EPPES? Was he the Col. Eppes of the American Revolution?

That written, as certain as I am that there was no LITTLEBURY family in the Virginia Colony, I am equally certain Lucy (wife of John WITT Sr.) was Paul's daughter, hence, née Lucy ABNEY. In my discussions with Wayne Witt BATES (may he rest in peace) decades ago, I feel I convinced him that Lucy could certainly have been an ABNEY, but I hadn't delved so deeply into the issue.. However, as I am now studying the Paul ABNEY branch for the next volume of the Abney Family History Series, it is abundantly clear that Lucy was the daughter of Paul ABNEY (bapt.1699). Everything is perfect, and nothing has to be squeezed into place. The ABNEY & WITT families remained very close for over a century (in documents and migrations). I have proved this relationship to myself (and hopefully to others) by a greater weight or preponderance of the evidence.
