FUNERAL OF CLARENCE HUNT
The funeral of Clarence Hunt, the young man who met a tragic death in the oil fields last week, was held Thursday afternoon at 2 p. m. at the family home of Pretty Prairie. Rev. J. R. Edwards, pastor of the Sedan Baptist Church, conducted the services and gave a tender and reassuring message to the wife and child, deprived so suddenly of a protector, and to the parents bowed down because of this break in the circle. Singers also went out from town and furnished the music. They were Mrs. A. R. Coover, Miss Maud Straight, Miss Lllian Michael, Messrs. A. W. Straight and Shannon Kinkade.

Clarence was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Hunt, old residents of the county. He was born at the old homestead on Moore Prairie Dec. 9th., 1893, died April 24, 1918, being some months over 25 years of age.

On Dec. 9th., 1915 he was united in marriage to Doris Pumpelly and to the union one child was born, Clarence Neal. The deceased was held in high esteem in the community where he grew to manhood and all claimed him as friend and neighbor. A life of uprightness and fair dealing and kindness, and a sympathetic nature had earned him liking and his death caused universal sorrow. The community extends sympathy to the relatives.

The funeral was a large one, many attended the interment in Evergreen (Moore Prairie) cemetery.

A FATAL ACCIDENT
CLARENCE HUNT RECEIVES FATAL INJURIES WHILE WORKING IN THE ELGIN FIELD
Tuesday near the noon hour this community was shocked to hear that Clarence Hunt, had been seriously injured while helping pull rods on the Kelly & Swanson Oil lease northwest of Elgin. Dr. G. N. Jeffers, was hastily summoned and found Mr. Hunt in a critical condition and decided to have him taken to the hospital at Independence. There they found that the skull had been badly fractured and treatment was administered at once but the injury was fatal and he passed away about twelve o'clock Wednesday.

Mr. Hunt was employed by Wallas Harpist, superintendent of the lease and with Lyman West they were pulling rods when the stake which held the block and tackle was pulled from the ground striking him almost full in the head and face.

The body was brought to the house of his father W. A. Hunt near the Moore Prairie School house yesterday evening and his funeral took place from there this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.

This is the first fatal accident to occur in the Elgin Oil Field and is extremely sad as Mr. Hunt leaves a young wife and a little child to mourn his death, together with his parents, relatives and friends.

Clarence Hunt was a young man about twenty two or three years of age and has worked with the oil development here for some time past and was well known by everyone, and no young man in the community stood higher among his fellow workmen or the community at large than did he, and to the sorrowing wife and relatives the Journal extend the deepest sympathy of all this community.
