Mrs. Harriet Carter Fincher, formerly of Jackson, MS, passed peacefully Tuesday, September 9, 2008, in Kalamazoo, MI surrounded by her family. Mrs. Fincher was born on June 26, 1914, in Munice, IN to George and Edna Carter.

She graduated from Ball State University and, after teaching in Alabama, moved to Jackson in 1940.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Andrew Fincher.

Surviving are her two daughters, Betty Fincher Sinkula of Kalamazoo, MI and Dr. Shirley Fincher Shiff of Fort Wayne, IN; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Mrs. Fincher taught mathematics in the Jackson Public Schools for 30 years at Bailey Junior High School, Central High School, and Calloway High Schools. She was state president of Alpha Delta Kappa educational sorority. She was one three sponsors who organized the Mississippi Chapter of Mu Alpha Theta, an honors math organization.

Mrs. Fincher was active in Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Brandon, MS. She and her husband enjoyed traveling abroad and throughout the United Sates. She was an avid bridge player.

Private services were held in Kalamazoo, MI.
