Joseph was born on March 29, 1919 in Greenwich Village, NY. He and his family moved to Sarconi, Italy when he was six months old. He was educated in Italy and studied to be a tool and die maker. He returned to Greenwich Village at age 17 to begin his apprenticeship.
He entered the US Army during WWII and quickly rose to the rank of Sergeant. On Valentine's Day, 1943, he was at the Battle of Kasserine Pass and captured as a POW. Joe survived twenty-six months in Nazi POW camps in Italy and Germany until being liberated.
Upon returning to the US, he married Mary Colecchia in 1945 and honeymooned at Niagra Falls, NY. Joe took a job in Manhattan working as a Master tool and die maker. Joe and Mary relocated to Doylestown, PA in 1954, where he managed machine shops for Circle F Industries in Wrightstown, PA and GTE Sylvania in Trenton, NJ.
Joe and Mary loved to travel. He crossed the Atlantic Ocean fourteen times in his tours of Europe. His most memorable trip was to Jerusalem, where he participated in a re-enactment as Christ at the fourteen Stations of the Cross. Joe and Mary moved to Southampton in 1997 to be closer to their family.
Joseph Fiore of Evesham and formerly of Southampton, died Saturday, December 8 at Care One in Evesham. He was 88.
Joe is predeceased by his wife of sixty-one years, Mary.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Joan Powell; a son-in-law, Bob Powell and granddaughter, Mandy of Shamong, NJ. He is also survived by a sister, Rose Del Armo of NJ, and a host of nephews and nieces.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 12 Noon at the Holy Eucharist Church, 521 Medford Lakes Rd., Tabernacle. Friends may call on Friday from 6 to 9 PM at the PERINCHIEF CHAPELS, 438 High St., Mount Holly. Interment with Military Honors will be in BGWCD Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown on Monday at 11:30 AM.
