ALBERTA DIMMIE STEWART
Alberta was born on March 18, 1927, in Breno Bluff, Virginia to the late George, Sr. and Ella James Dimmie. Her family moved to Tarrytown, New York in 1929, where they lived on the Rockerfeller Estate during her formative years. She attended the Tarrytown school system and married the late James Freeman Stewart in 1946.
Alberta departed this life peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, November 8th at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow, NY.
She worked at the Hilton Inn (now the Double Tree), where she supervised the housekeeping staff. After 30 years of dedicated service, she happily retired.
Aunt Bert, as she was affectionately known, was a devoted member of Shiloh Baptist Church of Tarrytown. She loved the Lord and didn't mind letting the world know. She was actively involved in ministry and volunteered her services without limitation. She endlessly shared the gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone in her family and who came in contact with her.
This fierce, humorous, sassy, confident, God fearing, independent lady was the epitome of class. Always well adorned in vibrant colors; matching from head to toe. She laced herself in the finest jewelry and the finest perfume money could buy. Aunt Bert wasn't just rich in appearance; she was rich in heart, spirit and soul.
After the passing of her beloved sister, Ella Dimmie, Alberta took it upon herself to become the spiritual guardian and caregiver of her sister's children Roberta "Honey", Theodore, Mary Ann, Doris, Paul, Paulette, Paula and Joseph.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories a devoted and loving son, Oliver "Joe" Stewart and treasured grandson Lonnye Stewart, her nieces and nephews, whom she raised as her own children and a host of nieces, nephews (both grand and great grand) and many, many friends.
Alberta is predeceased by her brothers George Jr., John Lee, Robert and William Dimmie; sisters, Ella Dimmie and Mary Lane.
