Lieutenant Calvin Johnson age 67 of Dyersburg, TN. died Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Jackson-Madison Co. General Hospital.
Lt. Johnson was a long time employee of the Dyer County Sheriff's Office. His employment began in 1985. He served in various positions at the Sheriff's Office as dispatcher, Jailer, Deputy, Communication Director and Lieutenant. He was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division.
He was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church were he served on the Trustee Board.
He was a member of the West Tennessee Criminal Investigator Association, Tennessee Gang Investigators Association, Child Protected Services Team for Dyer County and the Dyer County Fatality Review Board.
Lt. Johnson past time was raising Tennessee Walking horses and Barbeque cooking.
He was a former business owner in Dyer County were he operated C J Southern Stuff Restaurant and a clothing store in downtown Dyersburg. He was also know as "Dr. J" a disc jockey for WDSG radio in Dyersburg in the early 70's and 80's.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021 at McCreight Funeral Home 1607 Hornbrook St. Dyersburg, TN. 5:00p.m-8:00p.m... Funeral service will be held Saturday, November 13, 2021 12:Noon with Mitchell Matthews Officiating. Burial will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery in Dyersburg, TN.
Serving as Pall Bearers, Terry McCreight, Darrell McElrath, Joe Moody, Jeff Box, Jeff Holt, Bill French, Don Permenter, Kenny Nelson. Honorary Pall Bearers, Grandsons, Deacons & Trustees of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Survivors include his Daughter, Melissa (Bruce) Pirtle, Newbern, TN. Sister, Carolyn Johnson, Humboldt, TN., Brother, Leroy Johnson, Kansas City, Mo. Sister-In-Law Alice Johnson, Dyersburg, TN. (4) Grandchildren. A host of Nieces and Nephews and friends.
Lt. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, John Frank Johnson Sr., Virginia Johnson, Sister, Elizabeth Johnson, Brothers, Marvin Johnson, John Frank Johnson, Jr.
