Josephine Calvert "Joy" Powell, 76, died on November 6, 2021, following a long illness. Joy was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Hume S. Powell Sr.; mother, Josephine Robinson Powell; and brother, Hume Scott Powell Jr., all of Richmond, Va. She is survived by her aunt, Jean Payne Robinson of Myrtle Beach, S.C. Joy graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and attended Averett College in Danville, Va. She worked for the Virginia Department of Corrections until her retirement. Services will be private.
