Ray was the son of Ulysses S. Grant Nelson and Florence Neese.
He married on December 12, 1923, Peru, Iowa, to Gladys Marie Hann.

Services for Ray Nelson, 83, rural Peru, who died July 22 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital, will be held Friday, July 25, at 2:00 p.m. at the Peru United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charlie Morrow officiating. Burial will be at the Peru Cemetery.
Born in Madison County Mary 11, 1903, he was the son of Ulysses S. Grant Nelson and Florence Neese Nelson. He farmed most of his life and was a maintenance attendant at the Madison County Hospital for 12 years, retiring in 1968. He was a member of the Peru Methodist Church.
On Dec. 12, 1923, he was married to Gladys Marie Hann at Peru.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Andrew Grant Nelson of Ankeny; daughters, Darlene Marie Nelson Teachout of Piedmont, S.D., and Betty Ann Nelson Dales of Norwalk; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a twin brother and three sisters.
