Joan Abbott Dawley, 73, died peacefully at home on Thursday, March 10, 2016.

A lifelong resident of New Hampshire, she was born at home in Manchester on March 3, 1943, to the late John Arthur and Nancy (Clough) Abbott.

Joan graduated from Fryeburg Academy, Class of 1960: Colby Sawyer College, 1962: University of New Hampshire, 1964; and the University of Neuchatel, Switzerland. She worked at the United Nations in New York; was legal assistant to Judge Thomas E. Flynn, Portsmouth; was owner/broker of Appledore Realty, Rye; and Zoning and Planning Administrator for Rye and Rye Beach Village District. She was a past Director of the Seacoast Board of Realtors and served two terms on the Rye Planning Board.

The wife of David Andrew Dawley, who died on July 23, 2015, Joan is survived by her two beloved twin sons, Christian Clough Dawley of Dover, David Allen Dawley of Rye, her loving brother John Billington Abbott and his wife Maria of San Francisco, Calif.; nephew, John Clough Abbott, niece Elizabeth Abbott Wilder, and niece Virginia Abbott.
