She grew up in Pine City attending Pine City area schools, graduating in 1948.
She met the love of her life, Bob Erickson at a local dance when she was a senior in high school and they married on April 23, 1949. They made their home in Rush City where they raised their 5 children. She became a homemaker and secretary/bookkeeper for their businesses.
Together they owned and started Bob Erickson Trucking and The Rush City Sports Shop. Ione and Bob enjoyed motorcycling, participating in street rod car events and traveling. In their later years they became part-time residents of Florida, spending winters enjoying the beautiful weather and making many new friends. They loved having family and friends come down to visit them in Florida.
Ione was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She accepted Jesus as her Savior as a young child. She taught Sunday School and loved participating in and teaching Bible studies to learn more about Him. If you knew Ione, then you know of her great love and abiding faith in Jesus.
Ione moved to Meadows on Fairview in the spring of 2009, where she became an active member of the assisted living community. During her 12 years at Meadows she developed great friendships with staff and residents. Meadows staff were like family to her and she was well loved by residents and staff. Ione loved leading Bible study and exercise classes for her fellow residents.
The family would like to thank the staff at Meadows and Ecumen Hospice for the compassionate care, love and kindness that was given to Ione over the years and past few months.
Ione passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 1, 2021 at the age of 91.
