Jeanna "Jean" Sims Tatum Barnett
June 18, 1944 - December 11, 2021

Jeanna "Jean" Sims Tatum Barnett, 77, of Mobile, AL passed away Saturday, December 11, 2021.
She was born Sunday, June 18, 1944 in Bay Springs, MS. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
Jean was born and raised in Jasper County where she attended Bay Springs High School. After high school she attended Jones County Community College.
Jean spent most of her professional life working in retail, but work never came before family, especially her two children.
She was the youngest of eleven kids (six brothers and four sisters). She was raised on a working farm where she learned many valuable lessons. Mainly the value of a strong work ethic and the realization whatever she did in life she did not want to be a farmer!
A lover of sports, especially football, she could debate play calling and roster moves with any fellow sports enthusiast. SEC football was her second religion and when the University of Alabama football game was on TV there was no need to call her unless you planned to leave her a voicemail.
Family was the number one joy in her life and in that area she definitely hit the jackpot!
She had two children Joe (Sherry) and Tracie (Jackie) and four grandsons. No great grandchildren yet which is a blessing because none of the boys have yet to marry.
When she married Roy Barnett she gained three bonus daughters (Cheryl, Phyllis and Regina), a bonus son (David) and became Mama Jean. She also gained seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
She had twenty-six nieces and nephews on the Sims side of the family, four more on the Tatum side and another eighteen on the Barnett side.
With all of this family and her multitude of friends there was never-ever a day where Jean did not say and hear 'I love you!'
No need for flowers or contribution, but you spent the time to read this so we now ask you to tell someone you love them. If you're married, we suggest your spouse but that's just a suggestion.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Loyd Sims and Luttie Sims; and siblings, Troy Sims, Dale Sims, Atha Sims, Edsel Sims, Max Sims, Reba Moulds, Etta Jones, Louise Gilbert, and Marcia Tally.
Survivors include her husband, Roy Barnett; son, Joe Tatum (Sherry); daughter, Tracie Blakeney (Jackie); her grandsons, Connor Blakeney, Chandler Blakeney, Logan Tatum and T. J. Tatum; one brother, Lex Sims (Elenor); bonus daughters, Cheryl Kirkland, Phyllis Crocker and Regina Dunnam; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Sunday, December 19, 2021 at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m. and the service following at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Rev. Shaun Kaulfers will officiate.
Nephews and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
