Russell Akers of Phenix, Va., died Saturday, Jan. 28, 1956, at Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He had been residing temporarily with his sister, Mrs. Lulu Wallace of Clearville Rt. 2. He was formerly from this area. Mr. Akers was born April 18, 1882, in Monroe twp., a son of Mahlon H. and Sarah (Layton) Akers, both now deceased. He was married to the former Myrtle Hanks Dec. 26, 1905. She survives along with a daughter, Mrs. Lyda Musgrove of Richmond, and a son, Ray Waltman Akers of Phoenix. Also surviving are two brothers, Watson and Percy S., both of Clearville Rt. 2, and the sister with whom he was residing at the time of his death. There are also two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
